Congregational CARE
Get to know how Signal Pres cares for our church
The ministry of Congregational Care takes many forms at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.
It is – from the youngest to the oldest among us -- inter-generational.
It is the warmth of community as you demonstrate compassion and caring for your neighbor.
It is living generously and caring well with your time and talents to benefit others.
It is, first and foremost, the Gospel made visible with the love of Christ being actively lived out person by person and day by day.

Congregational Care at Signal Pres is YOU!
As covenant believers, we are called away from our self-interests and preoccupations into “koinonia,” our community of faith, that lovingly and compassionately shares in each other’s joys and sorrows by assisting our Pastors, Elders and Deacons in the ministry of Congregational Care. We accomplish this through a variety of ways via the diverse Congregational Care ministry groups whose contact information is listed below.
We hope you will reach out to us! Remember, whether you need to receive care or want to give care, YOU are a part of Congregational Care at Signal Pres!

Congregational care ministries
Below is short description of many of the groups and practical ways we care at Signal Pres. One of our values as a church is "Sacrificial Love", and therefore we care for, serve and pray for each other in costly ways.
Alcoholics Anonymous
Affiliated with the national organization Alcoholics Anonymous, the AA program at Signal Pres follows its Twelve Step program. AA members are people who have discovered and admitted that they cannot control alcohol and who choose to be part of a fellowship of men and women who come together to walk the road to recovery.
Meetings are heldweekly at the church.

Beatitude Living
A fellowship of women committed to working through life controlling problems and dependencies. The group offers a safe and confidential place for women working towards recovery from co-dependency, relational conflict, substance abuse, parenting challenges and the addictions of significant others.
Caregiver’s Support Group
Support for individuals responsible for providing care to their loved ones with life-altering, life-long, or end of life issues. The group provides the blessings and benefits of a time of respite from the pressures of caregiving and a place to draw support from one another.
Caring Meals
For church members who may be recovering from surgeries or illnesses, or who are homebound for a period of time, or who may have lost a loved one, our Hospitality team will deliver a delicious home-cooked meal once weekly.
Caring Presence
A ministry of encouragement and appreciation for Senior Adults with a primary focus on those 80 years old or older. Caring Presence ministry members personally deliver small gifts to these church members on a regular basis.
Circle of Prayer
The most enduring ministry at Signal Pres, the Circle of Prayer meets weekly to pray for the physical and spiritual needs of the congregation. Prayers are followed up by notes of encouragement, love and care.
Divorce Care
A Divorce Care support group will help you find strength, help and healing for the hurt of separation and divorce and, help you work toward regaining stability after divorce by learning how to deal with changes in relationships with family and friends.
The Encouragers
A group of church members who offer unexpected and anonymous encouragement to other church members with something as simple as a handwritten note or a small gift.
Grandparenting Matters
Because grandparents are uniquely positioned to spiritually influence their grandchildren, this group helps grandparents grow in their biblical role so they can have a greater spiritual impact on their families. This is done by use of 6-week video and discussion seminars.
GriefShare
This 13-week seminar and discussion group is offered each January and is a grief recovery support group where those experiencing grief and the loss of a loved one can find help, healing, and understanding as they walk through the difficult emotions of grief. Each Fall, there are two-hour seminars offered in preparation for the GriefShare seminar in January. Those are “Loss of A Spouse” and “Surviving the Holidays.”
Healing & Prayer Service
Held on the third Sunday of each month in Marr Chapel, this worship service offers a place of prayer, healing and sanctuary to those in the church and community who are experiencing life challenges. The service includes singing, a brief message, the Service of Communion and the opportunity to be prayed for individually by the Elders.
Helping Hands Ministry
A group of church members gifted with expertise as handymen or helpers to help meet the practical needs of the SMPC members
Highlanders
A ministry for church members and guests 65 years or older. It offers a variety of activities that connect, build, and nurture friendships, both old and new. Activities include a monthly luncheon and outings to places of interest in our area.
Medical Supply Closet
A supply of donated new and gently used medical devices such as wheelchairs, rollators, shower chairs and crutches that our members can access as needed for their temporary or long-term medical needs.
Pure Desire
The Pure Desire support group offers men a safe place to follow the roadmap to freedom and healing from the destructive patterns of sexual brokenness or betrayal trauma and the effect they can have on your family, your faith, and your future.
Stephen Ministry
Extensively trained lay members of our congregation called Stephen Ministers provide confidential one-on-one support, compassion and care to people in the congregation and community experiencing life difficulties.
The Timothy Group
A small ministry of encouragement to recent widows and widowers at Signal Pres. For the first year following the loss of their spouse, the surviving spouse receives a special mailing from the group each month.
