When Justice Is “Vanity”

Ecclesiastes

Wickedness, injustice, and oppression were pervasive in Solomon’s world…just as they are in ours today. As the “preacher” bemoans the meaninglessness of justice in the courts, and as he sees the oppression suffered by the most vulnerable, he recognizes that life “under the sun” is meaningless. If we put all our hope and trust in the justice and political systems of our world, it is. But what if we look to the One who has promised us life “above the sun?” What if we live in this world as followers of the One whose kingdom will last forever?
