10-12 Weeks, Beginning January 16
Every year we host the DISCIPLE course as our basic training in Christian faith for students who sense a call to follow Jesus. It exists to prepare students to trust Jesus Christ and help them learn to practice an everyday faith in him and is taught by elders and staff at Signal Pres.
This year we kick-off Disciple 1.0 (for 5th-8th graders) on January 16. It’s the perfect intro for younger students wanting to explore and grow in faith. At Signal Pres, the Disciple course works like the front-door for full membership in our church family.
WHO IT’S FOR
Disciple 1.0 is for 5th-8th grade students who might fit ANY of the following.
Exploring what you really believe, asking spiritual questions, curious about your faith, or growing in faith in Jesus
Not members of Signal Pres yet but wanting to join
Not baptized yet, but ready to say “I believe in Jesus!”
(Note: there is a separate Disciple 2.0 for 9th-12th graders).
WHEN WE MEET
Disciple 1.0 begins Sunday, January 16 (full schedule here) and meets consistently from 4:30 to 6 PM on Sunday afternoons for 10-12 weeks. Our final celebration is Sunday morning, May 1. It requires high commitment with minimal absences, and each week has some simple reading and prep to do in advance. Room locations and entrances will be shared after signups.
There is a key parent component to Disciple 1.0 (5th-8th grade). First, we’ll meet for a “parent class” alongside the students’ class on three key dates (see full schedule below).
Second, we’d like to talk with you before you son/daughter is signed up. Plan to meet with us on Sunday, January 9, at either 10:15 AM (between services) or 5 PM.
- Each meeting will last about 30 minutes and take place in Room 302 (Cornerstone Bldg, top floor) – you can enter via the walkway off the sanctuary lot.
- If you can’t reasonably attend either meeting, call Andy Cornett at the church office or email firstname.lastname@example.org by January 9.
If you’ve had a son or daughter go through DISCIPLE in the last two years and want to help with some behind the scene coordination or leadership, please contact Andy Cornett.
To register, complete the signup form online by January 12. You may complete the registration form anytime before January 12, but students are not registered until a parent attends attends the pre-class meeting.
