In October 2014, Scott Bowen began his service as the Senior Pastor of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.
At the heart of Scott’s vision for ministry is Acts 20:28 – “Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.”
Scott states, “As a pastor, I understand myself to be a shepherd of the people of God. My calling is to feed, protect and care for the people to whom I am called. The only food I have to give is that which God has supplied – I dedicate myself to the ministry of word and sacrament. The only safe refuge for anyone is the cross of Christ – I guide the people not mainly towards changed behavior or life skills, but to the One who has shed his own blood for our full and everlasting redemption.”
Scott grew up in Nashville, TN. After graduating from the University of North Carolina in 2000, he served for four years as a Youth Director at Signal Mountain Presbyterian. In addition to meeting his wife, Amanda, during that season, it was through those years at SMPC that Scott sensed the call to pastoral ministry which led him to Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts in 2004. In January of 2007, Scott was called to First Presbyterian Church in Opelika, Alabama. Over the course of nearly eight years in Opelika, the Bowens were immensely privileged to be a part both of that dear church family and of a wonderful work of God by his Spirit through his word.
Scott and Amanda have been married since 2003. They have two sons and two daughters. Outside of the church, you’re likely to see Scott running around the mountain or spending time with his family. Currently Scott is working on his dissertation in the Doctor of Ministry program of Reformed Theological Seminary.
