We’re excited to share with you EQUIP, our new Wednesday evening program.
As we seek to live out our vision to be “the faithful presence of Jesus’ love in ordinary life,” we recognize that we need others to help us to understand what it looks like to live faithfully in our homes, in our community, in our workplaces, and in our world. And even more than that, we need a community who we can walk with as we think practically about what it looks like to follow Jesus in an increasingly disorienting and busy world.
To that end we’ve assembled an outstanding collection of teachers from our congregation and community so that together we can take another step into the life that Jesus is calling us toward in each of the four spheres of ordinary life (home, community, workplace, world). Our hope that is that during each of our the four-week ‘quarters’ of 2017-2018 you’ll find a class that will be engaging and will equip you to take a next step as the presence of Jesus’ love for our world. So come and join us and see how God is calling you!
EQUIP Quarterly Schedule
EQUIP Kick-Off from 5:30 – 7:30 PM
Join us as the entire church family gathers together for an evening of intergenerational fun! We’ll gather outside to enjoy food from some of Chattanooga’s favorite food trucks, enjoy live music with games and space for our little ones to run around safely, and end the evening with a little friendly competition between our officers and our student ministry. Folks from our wiser generations will have the opportunity to avoid standing in line with a little help from other folks. Bring some cash for the food trucks and an appetite for fun!
September 13 – October 4: EQUIP First Quarter 2017
October 11: No Activities – Fall Break
“We Cannot But Speak” from 5:30 – 7:30 PM
Karen Ellis is an internationally known expert on human rights, global religious freedom, and the persecuted church and is one of our teachers for the second quarter of EQUIP. Come join us as she speaks from her personal experience of visiting with persecuted church leaders around the world and advocating for religious freedom. She’ll provide an “on-the-ground” perspective to one of the most important issues in the world today. Note: Children’s activities will continue as scheduled after our meal together.
October 25 – November 15: EQUIP Second Quarter 2017
Children & Youth Activities
Agape Club and 5th is the Children’s Ministry programs of Signal Pres. Each provides opportunities for fun, learning, and worship as the children gather together. Agape Club is for four year olds thru 4th Graders and 5th is for our 5th Graders. We meet each Wednesday from 6:15 – 7:30 PM on the Children’s Floor. Joy and Praise Choir meet as part of Agape Club. For more details on either of these ministries contact Carolyn Miller or Courtney Armstrong.
Joy and Praise Choirs meet each Wednesday from 6:15 – 7:00 PM. In Joy Choir, children sing, move, create, and play games and instruments to learn musical and singing fundamentals. They learn spiritual truths by singing songs of praise and catechisms. Joy Choir will have the opportunity to use these skills to lead in worship on Sunday morning. Praise Choir children begin to learn the fundamentals of healthy, beautiful singing, and gain music literacy skills through movement and playing instruments. We explore God’s Word and His love through Scriptural songs and catechisms. Praise Choir will have several opportunities to lead in worship on Sunday Morning. Joy Choir is for 4 Years – Kindergarten and meet in Room 201, Cornerstone Building. Praise Choir is for Grades 1 & 2 and meet in the Music Suite. For more information about the Joy and Praise Choir, contact Beth DuRoy.
SM2 is the Student Ministry of Signal Pres. We have a solid staff, tremendous adult leaders, and a church with the vision to present every student with the transforming gospel of Jesus, equipping them personally to live in his love and serve in his name. We call our Middle School Ministry (6-8 grade) – TREK; and TRUE NORTH is our High School Ministry (9-12 grade). During the school year we meet every Wednesday Night from 5:15 – 7:30 PM. Click here for the Youth Wednesday schedule. Contact Andy, Jimmy, or Camille for more information about the Youth Programs.
A word from Carol Price, Director of Hospitality:
We are excited about our new fall Wednesday night dinner options. The plans are shaping up to have comfort and family friendly menus. There is a new kids’ serving table planned along with some custom salads and soups. All of this is in addition to the weekly blue plate.
Our doors open at 5:30 PM and we serve until 6:30 PM, so if you are running late we will take care of you. It is always helpful to make a reservation, but it’s not required and if plans change we understand. It is our hope that this Fall each family will let us have an opportunity to serve you. It will be the best ($7.00 per person and $25.00 max for a family) value meal on the mountain! Oh! And we may have a few surprises.
Meal reservations may be made by:
- Signing up on the Ritual of Friendship on Sunday mornings,
- Calling the church at (423) 886-2190, extension 3220 and leaving a voicemail,
- Find the EQUIP schedule, menu, and make reservations on our site!
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I come?
We understand that life is increasingly busy for all of us and that carving out two hours in the middle of the week can sound like a lot. But we are increasingly convinced that taking intentional time out of our week to come together to think about what it looks like to live in our crazy, disorienting modern world is something we really need to do. The topics and the teachers have been chosen to help us understand our world and to follow Jesus more faithfully in it.
What’s the format? We’ve divided our Wednesday nights into four “quarters” of four-week classes. Each quarter is preceded by an all-church gathering where we’ll gather for a time of fun and fellowship or to hear together from a speaker on a topic that’s important to our vision of being “the faithful presence of Jesus’ love in ordinary life.” During our quarters regular children’s, children’s choir, and student activities will take place.
Do I need to sign up for a class?
No need to sign up – just join us! If you’d like help picking a class that’s right for you or have any questions about our offerings, just contact Joey Sherrard.
Do I have to come to every session?
We think you’ll get the most out of the time if you can come as much as possible, but we welcome everyone to come as much as they can.
