SPOTLIGHT // HIGHLANDERS
We all long to feel like we belong – and are cared about. The Caring Presence Ministry was founded to extend love, encouragement, support, kindness, and a listening ear to our older members at SMPC. The ministry started small by attending the Highlanders Bible studies and enjoying our older church members as we sought to find ways to be helpful and present. As Covid 19 brought its own health concerns and began to impact our most life-experienced church members, Caring Presence adapted. Since our vibrant seniors could not come to us, we went to them.
A variety of folks from our congregation and community contributed garden flowers, baked goods, monthly postcards, and money for apples, pumpkins, poinsettias. Others gave time, talents and a cheerful spirit while making at-home deliveries.
One sparkly-eyed white-haired lady said, ”The Caring Presence Ministry has reminded me that I am part of a church family that truly loves its members. The surprise treats are like little hugs from God.“ Another delightful lady said, “Above all the flowers and acts of kindness, the front door visits have helped me feel connected.” One of our team members who helps with weekly deliveries says, “I have always enjoyed older people. This has been a great opportunity to connect and discover some of the ‘silver’ treasures we have at SMPC.” If you would like to know more, please contact Carol Price or Petie Corell.
OUR VISION // For the glory of God, who makes all things new, Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church exists to equip all people to live ordinary life as the faithful presence of Jesus’ love.
