What is Expected of SMPC Members?
When individuals join the church, they promise “to live as becomes the followers of Christ.” The Bible lays out characteristic marks of those who have been made alive by the Spirit of God. In keeping with those marks, our expectation is that members of SMPC will be marked by:
Worship (Hebrews 10:25, Acts 2:42). Because of the centrality of worship in the life of a believer, and the promise of the Spirit’s work through the ordinary means of grace (word & sacrament), our expectation is that members of SMPC will make participation in corporate worship the priority.
Growth (Matthew 28:19, 1 Thessalonians 4:3a). Paul tells us that the will of God for his people is their sanctification. And as Jesus lays out his mission for the Church, at the heart of the call is making disciples. For this reason, it is our expectation that as a member of his body you will be committed to some means of Christian growth for you and your family.
Service (Matthew 28:19, 1 Cor 12:12ff). The Lord has gifted his people with gifts and resources, the use of which is designed for strengthening the Church. He has called his Church into all corners of the earth and all sections of society, that as salt and light they would make the gospel known and advance his Kingdom in the places God has put them. Therefore, members of SMPC will be intentionally engaged in some Kingdom work, being good stewards of their resources of time, giftedness, money, etc… for a kingdom greater than their own.
